<image:caption>The V10 (along with the original V12) was the hull that brought Epic on to the world Surf Ski stage. Back then the V12 was the Elite Boat and the V10 was the Elite “heavy conditions” or the intermediate hull. As companies have started to really trim down hull forms on the top end and massively widen them out on the “introductory” end The V10 maintained has its pertinence very well. With the introduction of the stable and fast 22' wide V8 Epic made a HUGE statement and also brought thousands of people into the sport. Many stay in the V8 or V8 Pro but for those that want to get the taste for what a long Elite boats offer (and demand) the V10 will show them. This is the “performance” layup, so it is durable and also pretty heavy. Which means there is allot less “twitch” feel to it when the paddler first gets in the boat, lending a good feeling of ease that helps them stay loose. I have put beginning paddlers in a Performance layup V10 after a couple of hours in V7's or V8's with really good results (on flat water) and I have watched a brand new paddler (an exceptional athlete) power all the way across a 17 mile Chesapeake Bay crossing in fairly bumpy conditions in this very boat. Its tough, relatively stable, its a proven hull shape that still has thoroughbred potential in good conditions with a competent driver. It is also going to bridge the gap in development of a deliberate paddler into the featherweight needles.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Allot of people Identified this stand up paddle board as a downwind board...but I instantly saw it as something else: A long range SUP surfboard. Here on the east coast when the big storm swells come in and our beaches are closed out by distant tropical storms or the aftermath of Nor'Easters we often look out into our inlets, or down from long bridge crossings and longingly gaze into the mauls of mysto breaks that are way out of range of standard surf craft including the wafer like SUP surf boards that have come to pervade the beach breaks. (See first island video) The Albatross is made for these dreams.</image:caption>

I think this was the second or third Albatross shaped and signed by Ian. It comes in a custom Vitamin Sea bag with an FSC Hawaii downwind fin, a FSC Jerry Lopez large surf center fin and two side biters.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The fact is that while I am an avid surfer I am not a particularly accomplished (or brave) surfer. When I bought the Albatross I labored with the opinion that big offshore waves could not be truly “surfed” in a ski, that without rail and fin no real inspired line could be drawn in this realm. Inspired by the likes of the South African Mocke brothers I started to look for the right waves in a ski.</image:caption>

Really the boat that disrupted the whole established surf ski industry by being stable fun and amazingly fast. Wide stable skis allow the paddler to learn the winged paddle stroke without constantly swimming getting athlete out in conditions that they could not even have dreamed of in the 17” x 21” industry standard. These are the durable rotomolded versions of the original “development ski” great for learning what the ski has to offer without fear of damaging a fragile composite hull, and fast enough to satisfy the weekend waterman/woman for a lifetime.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We drive our boats hard, but they are all stored indoors and we use proper rack systems and covers to transport them (these are the two instances that seem to damage boats the most (other then walking in to fences) so once a purchaser looks their boat over and accepts it, it is all theirs BUT we have developed a pretty good skill set fixing them. If you damage your boat or a seem opens up (never seen this happen on an Epic or Huki) let us know we won't gouge you on the price of repair and if you are interested we'll show you how to fix it next time yourself. Other then the winged paddle stroke there is really no more liberating skill set for the performance paddle athlete to learn then fixing composites. Its not that hard....it just takes patience!!!</image:caption>

      <image:title>SEAX 1.0 - EPIC V10L</image:title>
<image:caption>  As the reader can probably tell I am an Epic guy. Epics hull shapes and simple rigging just appeal to me. More importantly, their cockpits fit me! Additionally of the eight Epic surf skis I own, or have owned, none of them have ever exhibited a structural failure in some extremely harsh conditions. This V10L (low Volume) has been the pinnacle of my Epic experience. I own this hull shape in both the pre-preg carbon GT layup and this one in the Ultra Kevlar Nomex honeycomb construction. It is designed for the smaller lighter paddler. I moved into this boat after I had been in a 2006 era Huki S1-X Special for a few seasons, the S1-X Special is a 17”x 21' high volume boat and though I loved its handling it was very twitchy for me. I eventually cut a hatch in to the cockpit hump and laid up to 5 lbs of shot along her stem just under my knees. Low and behold I could now drive that Huki anywhere. This made me start to think that maybe not all paddlers need a 21 foot boat, I tried the acclaimed V14, same story as the un weighted Huki, I felt like I was sitting up to high in the water. Sure I could paddle it on the Alawai canal but the boat was just to tippy for me to ever be effective offshore. Then, Epic introduced the V10L. I fall right inside the higher end of its capacity (see bio above) which means a driver my size pushes it down a good bit on to its Length At the Water Line (LAWL) and that it is a wet ride. But the connection I feel to the boat and the concrete confidence it gives me in HUGE conditions is almost mystical. I have paddled this boat on 17 mile crossings in HURRENDUSSLY big, complex conditions and it just cooperates and drives down runs like some stallion from mythology. Check out: (Video links) both these are this boat before its refinish. I loved the V10L in Ultra and I quickly acquired one of the first GT layups Epic brought into the US. The GT layup of this boat was six pounds lighter! Now I had two exact same hull forms and the same paddler in them to compare side by side, … I did not stop paddling the Ultra layup. The GT is noticeably more twitchy and did not inspire in me the same confidence when out of site of land that the Ultra does. The GT accelerates quick, and it takes less effort to move but when it gets good and messy I will always want the Ultra under me. Additionally, I often make pretty long crossings that at their mid point have me 6 miles from shore. The thought that often haunts me is the prospect of hitting some partially submerged piece of flotsam or a denizen of the sea taking a swing (see video) Light carbon boats are awesome but if breeched badly enough they tend to just disintegrate, I have seen the Ultra layup take some pretty good hits. For me it is my primary offshore layup. The V10L has a pretty flat rocker profile with an extremely narrow catch (the cut outs at the paddle catch areas of Epics is another hull feature that I always found sexy) it is also shallow in volume top to bottom so all this serves to make a 6” male driver feel like he is driving the ocean going version of a WRC rally car I venture to guess that a standard size athletic female would feel like she was in a GTP car.   This boat has been modified for deep North Atlantic “turn and burn” down winds and Free Solo, unsupported, crossings as follows: 'About .5 pound of gelcoat, paint and decals have been ground off and shot with a automotive urethane then given a 2000grit wetsand “distressed” finish. Valkyrie Downwind graphics package including tactical American flag. Mark 2 “fly by wire” steering upgrade: using products from the Kite surfing industry to attempt to duplicate a light, adjustable steering system with the feel of a Huki (see S1-Z write up above.) Epic nonslip foot board/pedal pad and Ocean paddlesports neoprene footstrap pad. Adaptive cockpit system: I have a small ass. I need cushioning. I set a Mocke seat pad down that is .25” high and has cut outs for the butt bones. This seat is re positionable via velcro. If I am down winding or racing in anything but absolutely flat conditions this is all I use. But, when training or racing in flat conditions I add the top piece of an Epic seat stability pad. This pad is approx .25” thick and has a slick coating. Its held in place by a single velcro tab. So using both pads it has the paddler set up .5” off the bottom of the cockpit in a seat that conforms to his or her's shape and allows a good bit of pivot. It looks for all the world like a K1 seat. The purchased boat will include new pads so the new driver can conform them to his or her shape if they need them. I am keeping mine cuz they mold to your butt shape beautifully over time. Velocitec Speed Puck GPS display: Shows either heading over ground or speed in a large easy to read display. Pops into a secure permanent mount. Mocke wave cutter/spray guard:uses heavy duty velco to mount augmented by aircraft wash tape. Gopro mount just forword of the rudder compartment and conveniently adjacent to a leash plug.   If you are looking for a pretty, glossy craft this wont be the boat for you. But, if you are an average size intermediate female paddler or a slightly built male advanced athlete looking for a boat that will be your loyal companion when way offshore or duking it out in an ocean race. This is it. I LOVE THIS BOAT. The only reason I am selling it is that I am itching to build the SEAX 2.0 and there is another boat in the Epic line that has caught my eye and my penchant for dragging boats into the breakers. (incidentally, the SEAX 1.0 boat surfs breaking off shore hurricane swell awesome check: surfing video I cannot foresee EVER selling my GT layup V10L. For one thing; Epic has discontinued that layup for a slightly heavier build. Secondly, the flat rocker and narrow catch makes the V10L exceptionally quick. I have beaten accomplished paddlers in carbon V14's on flat water in the GT. But, I have repeatedly made the common mistake of choosing to paddle my full carbon V10L on big water races that looked like they were going to be pretty calm. In EVERY case I can honestly say that I would have done waaaayyyyy better in the Ultra boat for sale here. The 6 pounds of hull weight makes that much difference in stability and its effect on putting power down in the bumps. I remember a point in the last third of the 2017 Cape to Cape crossing race when we had a not insignificant following swell and a very significant of current in the face. I had chosen to paddle the 18lb GT because I knew there would be lots of support and safety boats out on the course. Why not paddle the light boat right? I would surely be faster in the lighter boat. Nope! I remember driving the boat on to runs and stopping paddling the way I always did and just dying on the run. WTF?! did I have weed on the rudder again? NOPE! It wasn’t until after the race that I thought about this and realized that all my crossings of the Chesapeake I had always paddled the Ultra boat for safety and security and my downwind cadence had been built to that boat. YES, 6 pounds does make that much difference! When you are fatigued at mile 13 of a 17 mile ocean paddle every little bit of stability counts to drive on to a runs crest and hold it there. When the moment came to drive down off that crest and through to a new one the GT just did not feel like it had the kind of attack and drive this Ultra boat does.   </image:caption>

      <image:title>The ALBATROSS</image:title>
<image:caption>We had just finished the “Great Hall of the Longboats” and a picture of South Carolina custom shaper Ian Balding holding out the first one of these boards popped up in my facebook feed (posted by the Distressed Mullet). Like some art freak that sees the perfect Jackson Pollock for their study I HAD TO HAVE ONE!! Allot of people Identified this stand up paddle board as a downwind board...but I instantly saw it as something else: A long range SUP surfboard. (See first island video) The Albatross is made for these dreams. Every part of this hand shaped board, from its beautifully extreme rocker profile to its side biter fins, to its double leash plug exudes traversing large expanses of big water in order to slip into off shore breaks. I think this was the second or third Albatross shaped and signed by Ian. It comes in a custom Vitamin Sea bag with an FSC Hawaii downwind fin, a FSC Jerry Lopez large surf center fin and two side biters. The fact is that while I am an avid surfer I am not a particularly accomplished (or brave) surfer. When I bought the Albatross I labored with the opinion that big offshore waves could not be truly “surfed” in a ski, that without rail and fin no real inspired line could be drawn in this realm. Inspired by the likes of the South African Mocke brothers I started to look for the right waves in a ski. After about or 3rd solid groundswell of this year I realized that when ever it got really big, To big to surf my 9' 6”, I was going to always be in a surf ski. As much as this board makes a classy table for a fine selection of wines out in the boathouse it deserves to be cut loose to ride the monsters out on the outer shoals and spread its wings like the great seabird bird whose name it carries.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I am NOT A KAYAKER!! never have been. I do not have an extensive background in any paddle craft other then Surf Ski. Up until 2010 all my salt water time was spent sailing multihulls (pretty well) and surfing shortboards (not very well). My over all philosophy of waters port is, and always has been, that great rides usually end up in a crash. Surf ski is no different for me, I consider swims not as failure but as an integral part of the game. I am 5'11 and, and if I have been in the gym and eating enough in the off season, about 160+LBS at the beginning of race season. By fall I am usually a ridiculously lean 155lbs. I was a bike messenger and competitive cyclist in the urban North East. When we moved to our spot on the creek I sold my bike and channeled all the Thursday nights of my youth watching magnum PI. I am 48 so I believe in an efficient paddle stroke and high cadence, that is occasionally “adjusted” by Zsolt Szdovski. I am an absolute Mid-Pack racer in most East coast races. My passion is “brisk” conditions on open salt water with minimal to no support. I paddle alone or with one or two other wingmen/women that are likewise motivated and equipped.</image:caption>
